Carolingian binding, Medieval books

This was a fun book to construct. Polished wooden boards with the folded sections sewn in around strong hemp cord. No adhesive was used.

I will do another sample using leather covered boards, not so thick, so that the binding style is suitable for a journal book. These wooden boards certainly do not fit into a handbag. Liked that the binding was non adhesive. a very secure construction and opens completely flat – as does the Coptic binding.
